Day 5 - Our first day at the lake house with friends

Today started pretty slowly, which is a great way to start a week at a rental house on the water! Our friends, the Erkenswicks, have two small children, so we started off the day with pancakes (who doesn't love pancakes?!) and then we stepped out front for a little "log splittin'". It's harder than it looks!
Peter tried...

Steve tried...
Jen tried...

Emily tried...

And Max reaped the benefits!

After splitting logs for awhile, we decided to head down to the water to kayak.  The dogs did not understand why they couldn't go with us!

Heading down with oyster net in hand!

Readying the kayaks!

Pete fell getting into his kayak, and the
oyster shells attacked!

Ready to go!

Checking out the crabs...

Ready to kayak!

Our friends crammed into one kayak!

Seals snoozin' on the platform.

After kayaking and seal watching, it was time to catch some oysters and eat them! (Well, I let Steve and Emily eat them. I did not eat them.)

They said the oysters were very briney. Not the best tasting oysters they've ever had, but definitely the freshest!

After we said goodbye to our guests, it was time for the dogs to go swimming!  I put doggie life vests on them because I didn't trust that they would stay close to shore, and it's always easier to grab them by the handles when they aren't listening.

They had a blast, and because the tide was in, there wasn't any concern of getting paws cut on the oyster bed.

This is what the trip down to the water is like (with the dogs)
Ready to roll!

We headed back to the cottage to hose down the dogs and shower for our evening. Steve and I ran to the grocery to pick up a few things we forgot to get yesterday, and when we got back, the Joebgens had arrived!

Spaghetti Dinner!

Andy's here! WOO!!
We had a lovely time hanging out on the deck visiting.  Andy showed up around 8:15, and we then had a very late dinner of spaghetti and bread. Alicia's family was all together, as was mine, and it was a great evening!

We capped the evening with more visiting before everyone retired to their respective rooms/beds. It was a great day!
