Day 14 – Last Day

What a lazy morning! With Peter spending the night with Emily, we really had no push to get going early.  We started to organize our things for tomorrow’s trip back home, and cleaned up the apartment (it’s amazing how far you can spread out in a few days!)

Breakfast...I had a sweet potato latte!

Emily, Peter and Haley first met us at a cafe for a quick breakfast. They then went to the PC Bang one more time to play with Andy (it was Friday night where he was). We stayed cool at the apartment.

Around 1 we met back up near the apartment at a place called Burger Park. They are Emily’s favorite burgers! It’s a teeny tiny place, but boy was it busy!

We spent most of the rest of the afternoon in Sungshin (the area near the apartment where Emily hangs out the most) as the high was 99 degrees with a real feel of almost 110! 

We headed over to a gaming arcade called Zzang Games and played some air hockey and racing games.

Then we headed to a Board Game café, got drinks and played Pictomania. It was hard picking out a game that wasn’t all in Korean!  We then said goodbye to Hailey and headed back to the apartment to cool off and wait for the heat to break.

We took off around 5 to catch a bus for the night market (aka the Goblin Market) down by the Banpo Bridge. It’s an evening market every Friday and Saturday night in the summer where artists and food vendors gather. There are also performances along the river. We were also meeting Emily’s friend Jieun…the friend who came and stayed with us last Christmas! We walked along the artisan’s tents and purchased some lovely earrings and Pete and Em got Henna Tattoos.

There were also food trucks galore, but I was still full from the burger! We got some drinks and visited with Jieun before taking a walk around the area. The other side of the Banpo bridge has the “floating island” which are two buildings that are built right on the water. They have special events and cafes there, and Jieun told us that a  scene from Age of Ultron was filmed there!

 We then walked back to the bus which would take us almost right to our apartment. Emily ordered fried chicken from her phone to be delivered to the apartment in 40 minutes, so we stopped by a convenience store and grabbed drinks to go along with the meal.

Walking towards our apartment, Peter heard saxophone music coming from under the bridge. We walked down to the river path and found a group of guys on one side of the river eating chicken and playing saxophone while a computer played the rest of the melody. It was a hoot!

A man walked up to us and asked us where we were from, and we told him we had come down the stairs because we heard the music. We got to talking about music and the fact that Peter plays Bari. Next thing we knew, they had pulled peter over and wanted him to perform! They originally wanted him to play the sax, but since the music is in a different key, they ended up getting him to sing Yesterday. Such fun.

THE CHICKEN GIFT!

As we were leaving, the man who had been eating chicken brought us a whole small roasted chicken with rice inside and a honey mustard sauce! We told Peter that he worked hard for that chicken! Of course we had MORE chicken delivered about 10 minutes later…so WE HAD A LOT OF CHICKEN!!

After we cleaned up, we played cards with Jieun and then called it a night.  Tomorrow we pack and leave mid-morning for the airport as Steve heads to Singapore on a 2:30pm flight and we head home on a 6:30pm flight. So the plan is to catch a cab and be there in time for Steve’s flight, then just hang out at the airport until it’s time for our flight. So this will be my last post.

What a wonderful trip this has been. Thank you Emily for all your hard work in planning this. It was so fabulous!!!!

UPDATE:

The next day we did catch a cab to the airport, and had SHAKE SHACK for lunch! Took me all the way to Korea to finally enjoy Shake Shack. :-P

After we said goodbye to Steve, Em, Pete and I ran into the AirStar robot who helps people in the airport. We asked where the Air Canada desk was, and he took us there! Well, he did for awhile until kids were jumping around him and confusing him. So we ended cancelling the request. He was really cool though!

Emily and I did our nails while Pete watched videos on his phone all afternoon. It was a slow day, but at least we were in air conditioning. And of course, the goodbye was hard. Goodbyes are always hard.
